Skolithos

Description. The Chickies Formation is described as a light-gray to white, hard, massive quartzite and quartz schist with thin interbedded dark slate at the top. Included at the base is the Hellam Conglomerate Member. It is a rare metamorphic rock that has fossils; Skolithos is found throughout the formation. [1].

2. Marine ichnofacies. Eight marine archetypal assemblages (Fig. 7.1) have so far been formally defined (Genise et al. 2000)—the Psilonichnus, Skolithos, Cruziana, Zoophycos, and Nereites that are usually arranged bathymetrically along the marine profile from coast to deep sea and Teredolites, Glossifungites and Trypanites ichnofacies (the latter being subdivided into the Gnathichnus and ...Skolithos ichnofossils are trace fossils (ichnos is Greek for footprint). They are evidence of faunal activity as opposed to regular fossils, which consist of molds or casts of skeletal components or body impressions. A trace fossil is a sedimentologic or lithologic impression attributed to activity of an animal or plant. Ichnofossils are ...
